1974 COLT DETECTIVE SPECIAL, 6-shot, .38 Special revolver with a 2″ barrel and a gorgeous original factory blued finish.  In 1927,  Colt decided to offer it’s popular Police Positive Special with a 2″ barrel.  In a stroke of pure genius- Colt decided that this new version should be named the Colt Detective Special. For the next 50 years, the Colt Detective Special was the preferred revolver for Police Detectives, Undercover Officers, and off duty Policemen throughout the US. During those years the vast majority of all police officers owned a Colt Detective Special. The Detective Special was so popular because it was an easily concealable handgun that was powerful and held six rounds. It was also prized for its accuracy and high standards of fit and finish, especially  when compared to other revolvers of its category. Many consider the Detective Special to be the finest “snubby” revolver produced. This particular example was manufactured in 1974 and is in beautiful condition. The finish is deep and inky and rates at 98-99%. There is little evidence of firing or handling, and the factory walnut stocks are pristine, with sharp checkering throughout.  Although plentiful years ago, it is now very difficult to find these early 1970s Detective Specials in good condition- especially with the factory boxes and paperwork.   Ships complete in the original serialized factory box, along with the manual and other factory paperwork.
