1974 COLT DETECTIVE SPECIAL 6-shot, .38 Special revolver with a 2″ barrel and a spectacular  original factory nickel finish.  In 1927, Colt updated its popular Police Positive Special with a 2″ barrel.  In a stroke of pure genius- Colt named the new model the Colt Detective Special. For the next 50 years, the Colt Detective Special was the preferred revolver for Police Detectives, Undercover Officers, and off duty Policemen throughout the US. The Detective Special was so popular because it was an easily concealable handgun that was powerful, held six rounds, it was accurate and had the highest standards of fit and finish available. Many historians believe the Colt Detective Special to be the finest “snubby” revolver produced. This example was manufactured in 1974 and basically remains in the same condition as the day it was assembled. The finish is just like a mirror. Outside of the faintest of turn lines, there are no handling marks or detractions to call out. The original factory walnut target stocks are beautiful,  showing no visible wear or marks from handling. It has become next to impossible to find an early 1970s Detective Special in high condition- especially with a nickel finish, not to mention one with its factory box and paperwork. This gun would be a centerpiece in any distinguished “Snubby” or Colt collection. Ships in the original factory box, along with the manual and other factory paperwork.
