SMITH & WESSON MODEL 40 “LEMON SQUEEZER” , .38 Special, 5-shot revolver with a practically flawless original factory blued finish. The Smith & Wesson Model 40 originally debuted as the Centennial in 1952 and was renamed the Model 40 in 1957. The Model 40 was chambered in .38 Special and had a five-round capacity. It was a snub-nose revolver with a 1 7/8-inch barrel, and was built on Smith & Wesson’s J-frame . Of course the unique feature that makes the Model 40 stand out from all other J-Frame revolvers and the reason why it earned the famous “Lemon Squeezer” nickname, is the grip safety- which must be squeezed to enable the gun to fire. Additionally, the gun’s hammerless design was very beneficial for snag-free pocket carry or when drawing from a hidden holster. This particular example is in extraordinary condition and could be unfired since the factory test fire. In addition to the grip safety, this beauty also has the “Flat-Latch” Cylinder release, only found on early model J-Frames. Add in the pinned barrel and beautiful original walnut presentation stocks and you have a collectors dream. If you are a serious S&W Collector, and you don’t have the famous “Lemon Squeezer” in your collection – this is your chance. Ships complete in the original matching S&W blue box along with the manual.
