SMITH & WESSON MODEL 49 BODYGUARD, .38 Special, 5-shot revolver with a 1.8″ barrel and a beautiful original nickel finish. The Model 49 Bodyguard has proved to be one of the most popular “snubbies” ever produced. Built on the popular “J” frame, and chambered for the versatile .38 Special cartridge, the Model 49 Bodyguard features a special shrouded hammer and was designed for snag-free pocket carry or drawing from a hidden holster. This gun was instantly embraced by Law Enforcement, especially Undercover Officers and private Bodyguards who needed a dependable weapon that was easy to conceal.  Weighing just 20.5 ounces, the Model 49 was effortlessly concealable and  was often used as a back-up gun by regular Police Officers and Detectives.  This particular example is in excellent condition and retains 99% of the original factory nickel finish. The overall lack of wear and the faint powder marks on alternating cylinders are tell-tale signs of a gun that has not been fired since the factory test firing.  The checkered walnut service stocks are pristine, with sharp checkering throughout.  This beauty also has features no longer available on today’s machine-made guns like a pinned barrel and a hammer mounted firing pin. This beautiful old school “snubbie”would be a great addition to any S&W collection, or it could certainly serve as a premium every day carry weapon.
