SMITH & WESSON MODEL 37 CHIEF’S SPECIAL AIRWEIGHT, .38 Special revolver with a 2″ barrel and a gorgeous original factory blued finish. The original Chief’s Special was a blued DA/SA revolver with a 1.8″ barrel and a round butt frame. In 1951, the “Airweight” Model 37 was released. It was identical to the Model 36, but featured a lighter aluminum frame and cylinder. The Model 37 has become one of the most popular revolvers ever produced and is a member of the “ snubbie hall of fame”. The incredible light weight- just 14.3 ounces, made the Airweight 37 extremely popular with plain-clothes Police Offices and Detectives, often being their first choice for a back-up gun. This Model 36 “no-dash” has desirable features no longer available on todays modern machine made guns, like a hammer-mounted firing pin and a pinned barrel. This particular example is in very high condition and the finish rates at 98%. This beautiful “old school” S&W revolver ships complete in the original factory serialized box along with the manual, tool kit and other factory paperwork.
