1962 SMITH & WESSON MODEL 37 AIRWEIGHT “FLAT LATCH” IN THE BOX, .38 Special revolver with a 2″ barrel and a beautiful original factory blued finish. The original Chief’s Special was a blued DA/SA revolver with a 1.8″ barrel  and a round butt frame. In 1951, the “Airweight” Model 37 was released. It was identical to the Model 36, but featured a lighter aluminum frame and cylinder.  The Model 37 has become one of the most popular revolvers ever produced and is a longtime member of the “ snubbie hall of fame”.  The guns incredible light weight- just 14.3 ounces, made it extremely popular with plain-clothes Police Offices and Detectives, often being their first choice for a back-up gun.  This particular Model 37 “flat-latch” is in spectacular condition for its 61 years of age.  It is without question one of the highest condition 1950-1960s era S&W revolvers we have seen. The original factory blued finish is deep and inky and easily rates at 97-98%. The factory walnut Diamond stocks are pristine. These older vintage “flat-latch” guns are prized by collectors and of course have features no longer available on todays modern machine made guns, like a hammer-mounted firing pin and a pinned barrel.  This is an exceptional firearm and could be the centerpiece of any serious S&W collection.  Ships in the original factory box along with the manual and paperwork.
